Pull The Plug

Video Installation

D / IT / USA 2010, 20 Min., 5 Channels or Stereo

Pull The Plug is a visual sound installation that playfully deals with the cities Las Vegas and Venice and their relationship to their environment. Thereby the urban paradises created by the human hand are visually and acoustically dissected in every detail.

Projections and multi-layered reflections challenge the observer to question his immediate visual and acoustic perception. Reinventing the geographical and chronological order, the interaction of sound and image overrides causality. At the same time, the enigmatic layers of images and sounds evoke the question of self-projection and reality.

Music and film undergo a steady transformation with changing levels of dependency, autonomy and contrast to one other. Similarly, the two cities interweave and form temporary structural relations whilst braving the search for connections between visual and acoustic sources.

In this manner the public perception of those two cities gradually sheds its leaves and reveals an artificiality in which dreams are reflected. With closer inspection, however, stab wounds disclose themselves, under which the reality can be perceived.
